Former President Donald Trump stated in a Truth Social post on Sunday morning that his possible indictment by the Manhattan District Attorney's office would be “Prosecutorial Misconduct and Interference with an Election.”
The post follows a series of Truth Social posts from Trump informing supporters that "illegal leaks" suggest he may face indictment and arrest.
The Manhattan DA's office reportedly may indict him over a hush-money scheme involving actress Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 election.
When Trump was president, federal prosecutors refused to press criminal charges over the event, but Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Braggs renewed the case in 2021 after taking office.
The 45th president denied the crime on social media.
“There was no ‘misdemeanor’ here either. There was no crime, period,” Trump wrote in the Truth Social post.
House Republicans are backing Trump against Braggs following the longstanding investigation.
While opponents of the former president seek to use this case against his 2024 presidential campaign, the investigations have led to declarations of support from the Republican Party, and the 45th president remains the most popular candidate for the Republican nomination.
Trump said he would carry on with his presidential campaign even if formally accused.
