Trump calls on Congress to take action after historic arraignment based on case with 'no merit'

Former president Donald Trump posted on Truth Social on Wednesday that “the unfair and morally disgusting Indictment filed against me yesterday has NO MERIT.”

Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records on Tuesday. The 45th president pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Both Republicans and Democrats have accused Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Braggs of using the law for political purposes. Trump claimed the indictment would be “Prosecutorial Misconduct and Interference with an Election” in a post from March 19.

Trump wrote in all caps in a second Truth Social post from Wednesday that “The Democrats have totally weaponized law enforcement in our country and are viciously using this abuse of power to interfere with our already under siege elections!”

On both sides of the political aisle, Bragg is facing scrutiny over the strength of his case against Trump.

Democratic voter Sammy Ravelo on “Fox & Friends” called Braggs “the worst prosecutor in America,” claiming Braggs should be focusing his attention on bigger New York crimes.

“This is a tragedy for America right now,” Ravelo continued.

Trump’s arraignment took place on Tuesday at the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse after he was formally indicted by a Manhattan Grand Jury last week.

Trump was indicted on charges related to falsifying business records for hush-money payments over alleged affairs with adult film actress Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal prior to his 2016 election.

“There was no crime,” Trump concluded the first post, “and, anyway, the Statute of Limitations has been violated by many years.”
