Conservative Supreme Court strikes down student loan forgiveness, affirmative action

The Supreme Court last week ruled against President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan, saying the Biden administration overstepped in its authority.

The proposed debt cancelation would have been over $400 billion, making it one of the most expensive actions in the history of the U.S. executive.

The conservative-majority court took another strike against the leftist agenda on Thursday, ruling against using affirmative action in college admissions in a 6-3 vote.

The rejection of affirmative action means race cannot be considered as a factor when reviewing student applications in higher education institutions. Affirmative action has been used historically to increase educational diversity.

The court found that race-conscious admissions violate the Constitution and the law on federal funding for colleges and universities. The decision overturned 45 years of academic precedent, specifically invalidating admissions processes for Harvard and the University of North Carolina.

Fox host Jesse Waters said, “They didn’t strike down diversity; they struck down discrimination. Race doesn’t determine your value or your success in life.”

While leftists believe the decision will only increase racial discrimination on college campuses, conservatives think the end of affirmative action will promote equality in admissions based on academics instead of race.

“We’re going back to all merit-based — and that’s the way it should be,” former president Donald Trump said, applauding the Supreme Court’s decision.

Tomi Lahren, host of “Tomi Lahren is Fearless” also supported the court, writing on OutKick that it was “a huge win for equality, fairness, and true merit.”

Lahren is hopeful for more conservative-led decisions.

“I know it might not always seem like it, but 2023 will be the year we bury woke and this decision is just another nail in the coffin,” Lahren said.
